Friday at the DJ’s

Hey everyone, hope you all have had a good week so far. This Friday we will be meeting up at Jenni’s and my place again at 7:30pm. It will be the last regular young adults Friday for a few weeks, because during February the whole church will be getting together on Fridays for some special meetings together, and that’s sure to be an awesome time! But there will be more on that later……
So for this Friday we’ll just be taking a look at something from Gods word and have a good time in fellowship with each other.

Also come on out to church for the upcoming Sunday service, Jan. 30th, @ 11:15am, we will have special guest speaker, Miika Mononen.

We hope to see you all tomorrow!

Upcoming Friday

Hey Everyone,

This is Daniel writing this week, since (you probably already know) Jarno and Liisa are having a well deserved break.

So this Friday we will be meeting up at Jenni’s and my home, at 7:30 as usual. Nothing big planned but Jenni is going to lead us in a couple songs, Jesse will share something that is on his heart, and mostly we will just be having a chill evening together. Also we’ll have something to munch on and so no worries, we don’t expect anyone to bring anything.

I just thought I’d share how recently I have been thinking more on how I need to be placing my dependence on God and not so much on my own abilities. In the Old Testament, God taught this to the Isralites:
Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.
-Deut 8:2-5
In the New Testament Jesus teaches the same thing to us. You’ll notice that Jesus used a portion of these verses when he responded to one of Satan’s tempts during His 40 days in the wilderness. From that response you can see how great Jesus’ living example here on earth was to us personally! Because it was not just a random response that Jesus gave, but a declaration of his to his dependence on the Father. Surly Jesus was thinking about the verses that are before and after the one he used as his response. His life paralleled and took on that of Israel in that he was also in the wilderness being tested. He didn’t take the easy way out and turn the stones to bread to satisfy his hunger, but He submitted himself to what God the Father’s plans for that time of testing were.

I know that for me I need to realize that the more appealing and easy way out of situations is not always going to be Gods ways. I just might be setting myself up for some more humbling by God, until I finally realize how much I truly need to depend on him. But it’s a good thing since God disciplines the ones he loves, and in that love God always has the best intentions, promise, plans and peace for our lives!

We look forward to having everyone over!

Friday @ Karjanlahti's Place

Hi friends,

So Ski Retreat 2011 has come and gone, and it was a fantastic weekend!!... wouldn't you agree? The weather was terrific, the skiing conditions were prime, the company was great, and the time together discussing, sharing, praying, and learning about Jesus was awesome. Thanks everyone for coming out! I certainly feel blessed by this weekend, and hope you all do as well. I just want to remind you to keep in mind all that we discussed about how Jesus is portrayed in our culture and how that impacts our relationship with Christ... and remember to pray about the challenge issued of being on mission with Christ.

So this Friday, Jan. 14th, we're inviting you all to our place in Burnaby for a night of focusing on God through the word, prayer, worship, and discussion. We'll meet up at the usual time of 7:30pm. If you need our address and directions let me know and I can send them your way... but most of you know where we live I think. =)

Sunday morning service, Jan. 16th, @ 11:15am. Come join the congregation together to worship God and hear His word.

Have a great week,
Jarno, Liisa, and Natalia

PS: Welcome back Tim!!

Ski Retreat 2011!!!

Hello all,

So now it's 2011, man that number looks so futuristic, or maybe I'm just old... but I guess one of the two is true. I'm going to go with it looking futuristic. Maybe its all the older movies I've seen that are about the future and have the date 2011 and there are robots flying around and laser guns everywhere. Man I'm getting sidetracked. Happy new year!!

Anyways, so this weekend we have ski retreat 2011 happening in Whistler. If you haven't let me know that you are coming well let me know asap... and also if you haven't received a registration via email and you are coming let me know. We are looking at leaving around 5:30pm on Friday from the church, rides are still being arranged so I will be in contact with those of you who are coming and needing a ride. The theme of the weekend is Who is Jesus to You? It's going to be a great weekend together so keep it in your prayers this week.

So if you have any questions post them on here or in the facebook thread we have going in your mail box.

Blessings,
Jarno, Liisa, and Natalia

PS: Pray for some nice white powder for Saturday as well. ;)
