Hey Everyone,
This is Daniel writing this week, since (you probably already know) Jarno and Liisa are having a well deserved break.
So this Friday we will be meeting up at Jenni’s and my home, at 7:30 as usual. Nothing big planned but Jenni is going to lead us in a couple songs, Jesse will share something that is on his heart, and mostly we will just be having a chill evening together. Also we’ll have something to munch on and so no worries, we don’t expect anyone to bring anything.
I just thought I’d share how recently I have been thinking more on how I need to be placing my dependence on God and not so much on my own abilities. In the Old Testament, God taught this to the Isralites:
Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.
-Deut 8:2-5
In the New Testament Jesus teaches the same thing to us. You’ll notice that Jesus used a portion of these verses when he responded to one of Satan’s tempts during His 40 days in the wilderness. From that response you can see how great Jesus’ living example here on earth was to us personally! Because it was not just a random response that Jesus gave, but a declaration of his to his dependence on the Father. Surly Jesus was thinking about the verses that are before and after the one he used as his response. His life paralleled and took on that of Israel in that he was also in the wilderness being tested. He didn’t take the easy way out and turn the stones to bread to satisfy his hunger, but He submitted himself to what God the Father’s plans for that time of testing were.
I know that for me I need to realize that the more appealing and easy way out of situations is not always going to be Gods ways. I just might be setting myself up for some more humbling by God, until I finally realize how much I truly need to depend on him. But it’s a good thing since God disciplines the ones he loves, and in that love God always has the best intentions, promise, plans and peace for our lives!
We look forward to having everyone over!
