New Years Eve

Hey guys,

So Christmas has come and gone, but the holidays are still continuing. Hope everyone had a great Christmas! We had a great time with family at our place and I'm so proud that Liisa and I cooked one heck of a ham! Too bad we finished it off yesterday... it was so tasty!

So New Years eve is coming up this Friday and we have been invited to Natalie's place in Whiterock to celebrate. So December 31st at around 7:30pm @ Natalie's place. Bring some treats to eat.

Also remember that ski retreat is coming up on Jan. 7th so get your registration forms in when you can. Also keep in mind that if you are able to drive and take people in your ride let me know. So far I think Jenni and Daniel and Niko can drive, and of course Liisa and I.

This Sunday Jan. 2, we are having our communion meal service at the church @ 11:15am. Come on out to start the new year at the church.

Happy Holidays,
Jarno, Liisa and Natalia

PS: Ruth is coming on Wednesday!!

It's Our Christmas Party!!

Merry Christmas Everyone,

So this week we are having our Christmas party, and as tradition goes we will be having it at Nina's place in Langley, Walnut Grove, @ 7:30pm. We are going to have our gift exchange of course, so bring a gift around $5.00. If you can bring something good to eat or drink to share with everyone that would be awesome!

Also don't forget about ski camp coming up on January 7,8,9th. I've been put on halt for a few days with the arrival of our bestest Christmas gift ever!.... our daughter Natalia has been born, and man is she beautiful. I can't even describe in words what the experience is like but it is such a huge blessing from God. I can't wait for you all to meet her soon! So back to ski camp...I'll be sending forms out to you guys and seeing how much room we have left still.

This Sunday we will be having our Christmas Service in the main sanctuary @ 5:00pm. There is a great program with Christmas songs and a play and a Christmas lunch meal afterward.

Christmas blessings,
Jarno and Liisa and Natalia <3

Enjoying LIFE

Hey peeps,

So last week Krystal shared with us what God has been doing in her life and where God is directing her. It was so encouraging to hear the awesome stories of God's miracles in people's lives that Krystal has been a part of and witnessed... and to think that these are not just stories but actual real life changing things that God has done. Our God is alive and working wondrous things in peoples lives.. man it's awesome! Thank you so much Krystal for coming out and speaking what's on your heart to us, it's been a real blessing.

It's amazing how much joy our heavenly father brings into our lives when we are close to Him and living our lives for Him. We have a real meaningful purpose when we are working for His cause, because what we labor towards is eternal and lasting. We feel what true love is because we are connected to the true SOURCE of love. He brings out the simple joys and beauties of life that satisfy our longings. He gives us peace in our souls knowing that we are under his unending grace and forgiveness. He gives us hope for our future and not only that but life after we die. He comforts us by standing with us through life's storms. He gives us wisdom and understanding for many of life's tough questions. He gives us strength to do the things he calls us to do. He does all these things and more through His son Jesus, who reconciled us to the Father. Can you think of anything on this physical Earth that brings these very things into our lives in a true way? I cannot... I know I've tried looking for these things elsewhere and never found them until I turned to God. "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matt. 6:33). I am so grateful to God.

This Friday we will be heading over to Niko's place in White Rock for 7:30pm. We will take a bit of time to get into discussion and then spend time in prayer. Man prayer is just awesome... think about it, we are actually conversing with the creator of the universe!.. and we feel His Holy Spirit around us and in us! Just blows my mind. So yeah, bring some things to munch on or something to wash down the munchies with, if you want. See ya Friday.

Sunday morning service is at 11:15 am once again.

We will be having our Christmas party on Dec. 17th at Nina's place in Langley, as the tradition goes and of course we will have the gift steal exchange. So around $5 gifts to bring you may. =)

Also don't forget about the upcoming ski retreat to Whistler on January 7,8,9. I will be sending out waiver forms to the people who have let me know that they are coming. Also let me know if you are able to drive and take some people in your ride. As of now estimated cost for the weekend for food and gas is $40. I'm stoked!!... it's going to be a really great weekend.

Have a great week guys,
Jarno and Liisa

PS: Oh, and still no baby.

We Have a Guest

Hello all,

So we put up our Christmas tree yesterday... and man does it smell good! I love that pine smell that they give off, really gets you into the festive spirit. So last weekend was fun... we had a great time together at the Connected Night on Friday, and then also on Saturday at Natalie's place we had a fun time! We're so lucky to have such great friends and family around us, aren't we?

So this Friday we are meeting up at Daniel and Jenni's place in Delta @ 7:30pm. Krystal Alopaeus will be our guest this Friday and she will be talking to us about what God has been doing in her life and whatever else she has on her heart. Krystal has been working abroad in many different countries with YWAM over the past few years and has scene and experienced many wonderful things... so come on out, I'm sure you won't want to miss this.

Also we have our Ski Retreat location and time set now. We will be going to the Antturi's cabin in Whistler on the weekend of January 7th, 8th, and 9th. So check your schedules, or rather, clear your schedules because this is another weekend you won't want to miss. I believe God has something awesome in store for us. So we will be getting forms and costs out to you ASAP... but you can already let me know if you are coming. I'm excited!!

This Sunday morning service, Dec. 5th, is our communion meal meeting. Starts at 11:15am so come on out.

Have a great week,
Jarno and Liisa
PS: Still no baby yet.

Christmas is Coming!

Hello,

Don't know about you guys but I'm really feeling the Christmas season already. Maybe its the snow and cold weather, the smells from all my wife's scented candles, or the all the Christmas ads and music they are playing everywhere... but I tell ya, it's a wonderful time of year!

So that leads me to this Friday's Christmas themed Connected Night. We will have all sorts of things Christmas this Friday to create that atmosphere and the kid's will be having a "little Christmas" program too. A couple volunteer helpers are needed for the kid's, so if you can help let us know, thanks!! So it will be this Friday, Nov. 26th, at the church starting @ 7:00pm, come on out and spend some time together creating that cheerful holiday attitude.

Then on Saturday, Nov. 27th, we are invited to Natalie's place in Whiterock @ 6pm to hang out. Natalie is coming home for the USA Thanksgiving holiday. Also she said that the sauna can be heated up if people want, so bring your swimsuits and towels if you are planning on saunaing. It will be great to see Natalie again!

Then on Sunday, Nov. 28th, morning service @ 11:15am at the church.

Have a blessed week guys,
Jarno and Liisa

Bible Study by Members - Daniel and Jenni's

Hello,

Last Friday we met at our place and we had a great time. We took some time to reflect on our lives and how we have used our natural talents and gifts that God has given us to serve Him. We then moved onto the topic of spiritual gifts and how much we should desire them. We took a look at Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12. God wants to bestow His gifts of the Holy Spirit upon His children so that we can use them for His glory and to edify His church. Do you view spiritual gifts as something real and something possible to happen in your life? Do you desire to receive and use a certain spiritual gift? I challenge you, start asking your heavenly Father for a spiritual gift, also pray for our group and our church to receive spiritual gifts from God. It would be awesome to see the move of the Holy Spirit in this way more and more in our church!

This Friday we are meeting up at Daniel and Jenni's place in Delta at 7:3opm. Daniel has some scripture to take us through in this weeks Bible Study by Members. If you need a ride or directions give me a call. See ya there.

Also Sunday morning service at 11:15am in the main sanctuary. I will be preaching on Ephesians 6, soldiers standing for Christ. Also Seeti Penttinen is having his 70th birthday after the service so help in the kitchen is needed for clean up afterwards. If your able to come help that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Blessed week,
Jarno and Liisa

Happening This Week

Hello everyone,

Passion Tour Vancouver was great! I was so amazed to see 10,800 college and university aged people packed into Roger's Arena! All there for one common reason and that is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. The music was great... the word was impacting... and the prayer was powerful. It was by far one of the largest worship services I've been to. It's so encouraging and fresh to see so many young people in our city who believe in and follow Jesus. Any thoughts you guys have about last Friday you wish to share? Feel free to post them in the comments section.

This Friday night we will be meeting up at our home (Liisa and Jarno's place) @ 7:30pm. We will be digging into the Word so bring your Bibles and we will be also be spending time in prayer. If you need our address and directions give us a call.

Also we are starting to take a look at when we will have our winter ski retreat/ski camp and where. I need to know what time of the year will work best for everyone. How does the weekend of January 8th/9th/10th? Do college and university students have that week off still? Discuss in comments section.

This Sunday morning service is at 11:15am at the church. Exciting stuff, come on out.

Blessed week,
Jarno and Liisa

Passion Vancouver

Hello,

So this Friday is the Passion Tour Vancouver at Roger's Place (formerly GM Place). The doors will be opening at 6:00pm, the event itself starts at 7:00pm and is expected to end around 10:30pm. I have bought tickets for everyone who has let me know that they want to come. Tickets are $15.00, so if you could pay me back that would be great. We can organize car pools for rides or skytrain in the comments section.

Last Friday's Fall Fest Connected Night was great! Thanks everyone for helping out and dressing up. Great to see such enthusiasm. It was awesome to see all the kids in their costumes and taking them through our hunt for the missing keys activity. I'm really digging these Connected Nights, they are a lot of fun.

Also this Sunday is communion Sunday so we will be having our communion meal. Starts at 11:15am. Also we are having our English Ministry Guiding thoughts session afterwards where every member is welcome. We will be taking a look at our church's core values and mission statement and planning for the future. It requires everyone's input so come on out.

Be blessed,
Jarno and Liisa

Fall Fest Connected Night

Hello everyone,

Wow, well the fall weather is officially here... it has been pouring buckets of rain and strong gusts wind. Makes you not want to leave the house or set foot outside. It's those perfect days to spend inside all cozy and warm wrapped up in a blanket, that is if you have the day off.

Last Friday's meeting was just great! It was awesome to pray for each other and bless each, and it was awesome to have the Holy Spirit touch each one of us! Man God is just fantastic... and it is so vital that we commit our lives wholeheartedly for Jesus. That we remember to put Him first before anything else in our lives; that we work and labor to further the cause of the Kingdom of God here on Earth.

So this Friday we are having our Fall Fest Costume Themed Connected Night at the church @ 7:00pm. There will be a prize for the best adult costume and a few for the best child's costume. We are also having a skavenger hunt/station event for the kids, with pumpkin carving at the end. So we really need a hand in helping to setup and run this thing. Please let us know if you are able to come and help, and if you are able to come early to the church to setup as well. Thanks guys!

This Sunday morning service @ 11:15am, we see you there also.

Blessings,
Jarno and Liisa

PS: Remember to pray for our group and our church during this week.

New place to pray

Hi guys,

Hope everyone is enjoying the month of October so far... I just love this stage in the fall season when we have crisp sunny days and the leaves are falling, and all the colors... it's simply awesome. Last week's Bible Study was great, thanks so much Nina for taking us through Romans 4. It was great to examine salvation and faith deeper, and it really sparked a good conversation. Also thanks Sam for leading us through a couple of songs.

So this Friday we're going to be meeting up at our new place in Burnaby @ 7:30pm. The address is 4892 Carson Place, Burnaby V5J2Y5. Our sweet entrance is from the left side of the house through the gate into the backyard and the door at the back of the house. We going to have a night emphasized on spiritual growth through the word, song, and prayer. If you need a ride or have any questions just give Liisa or myself a call. Also feel free to bring any snacks or refreshments.

We also have a costumed themed Connected Night coming up on Oct. 29th @ 7pm and are really focusing on a kid's program, so we need help, let me know asap if you are willing and able to help. Also there will be a prize for the best dressed up adult as well so dress up appropriately of course. ;)

This Sunday morning service @ 11:15pm. So come on out to worship God together.

PS: If you still want tickets to that Passion concert happening on Nov. 5th let me know asap.

Blessings,
Jarno and Liisa

Out to Langley We Go

Hi Everyone,

Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and stuffed yourselves with turkey over the weekend. We have so much to be thankful for in our lives and sometimes we just get so used to all the good things that we start to take them for granted. Thanksgiving is always a good time to reflect on what God has blessed us with and all the grace that He lavishes upon us everyday.

Thanks again to all of you for helping out in the kitchen on Sunday for the Thanksgiving lunch... it was a great meal! Friday night at Daniel and Jenni's was great, Daniel had a great Bible Study prepared for us on the first chapter of John. It was really interesting to study closer on how John introduces Jesus in his book.

So this Friday we are meeting up at Nina's place in Langley @ 7:30pm and Nina will be leading us in our next session of Bible Study by Members. I'm looking forward to it! It's awesome to see how you guys are taking up the challenge to prepare a Bible study, it's a very rewarding experience for your own spiritual growth and encourage everyone to try it out.

Also there is the Passion World Tour coming to Vancouver on November 5, 2010. If you want to go with us let me know. I can get tickets for us. Check it out: http://www.268generation.com/wt2010/new/#/vancouver

Also 19twenty Church service this Sunday @ 11:15am. Sermon topic will be on James 3. Come on out! See you guys on Friday.

PS: if you need a ride contact Liisa or me.

Blessings,

Hope you all are having a wonderful week. Liisa and I are finally moving to our new place this week in Burnaby. I spent the weekend with Tim and Niko painting pretty much the whole place and got most of it done. We're looking forward to being able to have you guys over at our place soon too.

Connected Night

Hi,

So last week's Bible Study by Members was great. Man, Jessica's friend's place in Kits have a beautiful house. It was really nice to get together there, thanks Jess!! Also Jesse did a fine job taking us through 1 Timothy chapter 6. It was a great chapter to go through and really relevant to our daily lives. I recommend you read through it if you were not there! God's word is an amazing thing that we can learn from so much, but still never enough. =)

So this week we have our first Connected Night coming up. Everyone is invited to come on out and play games, listen to music, eat some food, and just hang out with friends. Also Liisa said she is putting together a little something for the kids so if you want to volunteer and help, let us know. Connected night starts at 7pm at the church, so I hope to see you guys then.

Also this Sunday we are having our monthly communion meal at 11:15am all together in the fellowship hall. Man I'm excited about our 19twenty church ministry this fall... every member is so important and needed!!

Have a blessed week,
Jarno and Liisa

This Week & a Bit of Change

Hey everyone,

As you may have noticed the address to our blog has changed and also our name has changed. We believe this is more fitting to the dynamic and age group of our... well... group. So what to you guys think? 19twenty College & Careers Group, and in short 19twentyCCG. Do ya like it?

So last week we kicked off our new series of Bible Studies by members program and it took off quite well, it was great to see a good sized group come out. We started off with the book of Colossians.. which is one of the epistles that is mostly centered around Jesus Christ. We got through the intro to the book and most of the first chapter. Thanks again to Niko for having us over at his place.

There has been a little change in plans for this week regarding our next study. Daniel has swapped turns with Jesse due to a family gathering this week, so Jesse will be taking our next session. I just found out last night and have not spoken with Jesse yet if we will be meeting at his place or elsewhere. So I will let you guys know ASAP when I talk with Jesse. However, we will meet up on Friday at 7:30pm... location.... to be announced. Also if there is someone who wants to open up there house for this Friday, just let me know.

Also we will be having our first Connected Night this October 1st @ 7:00pm, so you can mark that on your calendars and come on out to play games, eat food, and have fun hanging out.

This Sunday morning service @ 11:15am. I will be preaching on Our Changed Lives - Faith and Works. Would be awesome to see you guys there as well. =)

Blessings,
Jarno and Liisa

Niko's House

Hi everyone,

So how has everyone's September been so far? Ours has been good. Liisa and I found a nice place to rent in Burnaby that is close to Metrotown. So we are really thankful for that. Our daughter is moving around a ton inside Liisa, which is so amazing to experience as a father. I really can't wait to meet her!

So down to what is going on this week. We are meeting up at Niko's place in Whiterock on Thursday @ 6:30pm. If you need the address, get a hold of me or Niko and we can give you directions. Likewise if you need a ride you can get a hold of me. We are going to start off with a fresh new series of Bible studies that people can take turns hosting. This is great cause it is an area where you really learn and grow spiritually when you put something like this together. So I want to encourage you first of all to come out, and then second if you feel up to the challenge of putting a study together to try it out.

We have also other plans in the wind for our group so come on out and be a part of what is happening. Hope everyone is doing well with the start of their new season.

This Sunday joint service at 11:00am.

Be blessed,
Jarno and Liisa

Fall Planning

Hi everyone,

Sorry about the late post. It's been a hectic week once again. Liisa and I have been searching for a place to rent, a car to buy, doctor's appointments, and various other things on top of work. However, hope you guys are all doing well. Many of you are almost through your first week at college, and I'm looking forward to hear how it went. It's cool experiencing the new changes that life brings with it in its various seasons.

So this Friday we're going to start looking at the upcoming fall season and planning out what direction our young peoples' group will go. I think it is essential that we get together and organize ourselves to start off this season. I feel that it is important that we put our faith into practice and start showing the love of God through our young people's group. It would be great to get a leadership team together to help plan events and seek God's direction. So I want you to think about if you are willing to commit to such a team, pray about it. We have a wonderful group of young adults and the possibilities are endless with God.

So we will meet up at the church around 7:30pm. Please try and make it out this week, it is very important that you attend. We can order pizza if people are hungry also. Thanks guys and hope to see ya.

Sunday morning service at 11am this weekend.

Blessings,
Jarno and Liisa

Daniel and Jenni's Place

Hi everyone,

Well it has been a busy last week with Loon Lake Summer Camp happening. Hope you all have recovered from the busy schedule and late nights. You guys did an outstandingly wonderful job! It all worked so smoothly because of everyone doing their part. It's great to see your guys willingness to serve others. A big thanks to all you guys again. Great job. I've managed to rest pretty well but unfortunately I have caught a bit of a nasty cold... but such is life.

So this Friday we are meeting up at Daniel and Jenni's place @ 7:30pm for a night of discussion and prayer. I figured since the school year is starting up next week, and many of you are starting off in a very different place in life, that it would be a good idea to start it off with praying for each other and talking about anything on your minds. We can look into scripture for guidance and wisdom too. So I really want to encourage you all to come out so we can start this upcoming fall off together. Many of us are approaching life changing times in our life. Including Liisa and I... we're having a girl!! I'm so excited. Anyways, sorry about that, but really hope to see you all on Friday!

PS: Sunday morning meeting at 11am. Come on out. We're really excited about God and our congregation!

Blessings everyone,
Jarno and Liisa

Monthly Prayer Walk

Hi gang,

Haha.. Love it. Don't you? You may be confused and wondering what I'm talking about... love what? LOVE LIFE! Man it's wonderful to be alive and loving life. A magnificent gift from God, and only He can give us that joy in our hearts to truly love life and live happily; and to receive this joy we must love God with all our hearts and love our neighbors. The greatest commandment is love. One of the was to show God that we love Him is to show love to other people around us... after all they are all God's creation and He loves all of us equally.

Which brings me to what we are doing this Friday evening. We will be going for our monthly prayer walk around the neighborhood and praying for the community. What better way to show love for the people around the church than to pray for them, even when they don't know that we are there.

So come on out to the church at 7:30pm and join us. Last time we were really lead by the Holy Spirit in our prayers and felt the power in prayer, it was awesome! So I encourage you all to come. Hope to see you Friday!

Have a blessed week,
Jarno and Liisa

Special Evening

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is having a fabulous week! It was nice to get a bit of rain on the weekend, the city and vegetation really needed it... but it wasn't the greatest timing with the Christian outdoor concert going on in Cloverdale and also one of my friends had their wedding on Saturday.

So this Friday night at 8:00pm we have a special service happening at the church. We have a guest speaker and also a guest worship leader who will be there. Many of you know that the Finnish Summer Conference is happening this weekend and this gives an exciting edge to Friday night's meeting. We have been praying for this weekend that God would really pour out His Spirit in a powerful way and we are really looking forward to it. So come on out and be a part of what's sure to be a great meeting. Hope to see you guys there.

Also this Sunday morning service @ 11:00am is going to be a joint meeting in the main sanctuary, it will be in both languages, English and Finnish.

Stay blessed,
Jarno and Liisa

Movies

Hello everyone,

Sorry about the late post this week. Time has just been a blur this week with camp so near and things to do... so this month is really busy with Konffa happening at the church next week and then camp pretty much right after that.

Anyways Liisa and I thought that this Friday we could have a fun outing since we worked so hard at the car wash and all. So how does a night at the movies sound? I thought we could go see Inception, I hear it's a good one and that it's also got good reviews at Christian websites. I thought we could go to the Richmond theater and see the 7:40pm show. What do you guys think? Post in the comments if you are coming so we can get a count and get seats together.

Also come out to our service this Sunday @ 11:00a.m. Liisa ant the guys will be leading us in worship and I will be preaching. We've really been having some good meetings lately so come in check it out.

Be blessed guys,
Jarno and Liisa

Fund Raiser

Good day everyone,

Got to love Vancouver in the summer! It's been just the perfect temperature over the weekend, hot in the sun, but cool in the shade.. that's what I'm talking about. So I hope everyone is doing well and that you're all having a good summer. Last Friday was awesome, we got some signs made for the car wash coming up this Saturday, ate some pizza, and walked around the neighborhood praying for the community. The prayer walk was definitely the highlight, it was wonderful to really feel the Holy Spirit leading us in prayer and knowing that our prayers were effective. We really felt that the community around the church is in need of God. We walked to the schools around the community, the different churches, and the boys and girls club, and stopped to pray at each. We felt that this was powerful and we want to continue to do these prayer walks... who knows what doors God will open. I encourage you all to come out for our next prayer walk and start putting your faith into action, and start to impact the community.

So this Saturday, July 24th, we are having our car wash & BBQ fundraiser for the summer Kid's Camp. We need all the help we can get so try and make it out. We will be meeting at the church around 10:00am to set up, and start washing cars around 11:00am. It will be fun times in the sun for a good cause. Looking forward to seeing you all.

Also this Sunday morning service at 11:00am, be there. ;)

Blessings,
Jarno and Liisa

Walking and Praying

Hello guys,

Hope you guys are all having a wonderful week and been outside enjoying the sunshine and warm weather. It's so great that summer is here, such a happy time.

So this Friday we are going to be getting ready for our Kid's Summer Camp Fundraiser coming up next Saturday, July the 24th. We will be meeting at the church, yes I said it, at the church around 7:30pm to start making the signs that are needed.

Also we are going to do a prayer walk around the neighborhood of the church and just pray at various spots for the people living around the church. We can split up into a couple of groups depending on how many people come and take different areas. Don't worry you aren't going to have to approach people to pray for them or anything, but we are just going to pray within our group for the different areas. Prayer is a powerful thing and it is where things start from. If you look at any major revival or movement of God it has always started with prayer. So come on out and be a prayer warrior this Friday.

We will also order pizza and eat together, and just hang out and have a good time. Hope you guys can come out and help with the preparations for the fundraiser and also start impacting the community around the church with prayer.

Also Sunday morning service this Sunday at 11:00a.m. and I will be preaching on God's grace. Hope you decide to come out this Sunday to have a listen.

Many blessings,
Jarno and Liisa

Let's Take a Hike

Hi people,

Man last week was a good week. We had an awesome time last Friday at Nina's place spent in prayer, worship, and conversation.. I really felt that God was there and His Holy Spirit was moving, it's fantastic to share these moments with you guys and to know that God is real and always present in our lives. Also our church picnic was fun, we had a lot of people come out and thanks for all you who could make it!

So this week it looks like it's going to be a warm one, today has been simply beautiful so far and I am looking forward to the rest of the week. So I thought we could enjoy God's creation and go for a hike on Saturday July 10th and pack some food with us and eat together as well. What do you guys think? Who's up for it? I was thinking either the Alouette Lake area in Maple Ridge or then North Vancouver Deep Cove area? Any other places you guys would like to check out? Let me know what you guys think and who can make it.

Also Sunday we have our communion meal together at 11:00am, so come on out for that. Niko will be sharing a message so come and show your support. =)

Oh yeah before I forget, we are planning on doing a fund raiser for kid's camp on July 24th. We are going to do a car wash and hot dog BBQ. Also we will have a baked goods sale at the same time. So mark it off on your calendars and come on out to help. Also if you want to help in the preps let me know.

As for Kid's Summer Camp if you know your schedule and want to be a counselor let me know ASAP. It's happening from August 22nd to 27th.

Spiritual Emphasis Night

Hey-O,

Good Wednesday to you all. It is midweek already, I can't believe how fast these weeks go, it's scary. Anyways, we had a great last weekend with the drive-in and the Seattle trip. Thanks for all who came out, it was a really fun weekend. Mars Hill Church was awesome!... it really was inspiring to see a growing church like that and just to feel the presence of God there.

So this Friday I felt that we should have a night where we can spend time in worship and prayer together; seeking God and finding that first love with Christ. This past month and a half I've experienced some wonderful time in prayer... just when I can really feel the Holy Spirit powerfully and the presence of God, I tell ya the spirit is on the move and that means God is on the move, it's exciting times.

We are going to meet up at Nina's place in Langley, she has offered her place for us to use so we'll definitely take advantage of that, thank you Nina. So if we start showing up there 7:00-7:30pm, I think that should be good. Bring something to snack on for everyone if you can, or even pop or juice to drink that would be cool. Also bring your Bibles, God's word is amazing and it's so important to get to know your Bibles more and more. So start already praying for Friday night that it would be anointed by God and that the Holy Spirit would meet us powerfully there. I'm excited, hope you are too!

Also we are having our church picnic this Sunday at 3:00pm at Deas Island. We are having it a bit later in the evening this year and there will be games to play, food to eat, good company, and a bonfire. So come on out for that.

For the Kingdom,

Twilight Drive Time

Hi peeps,

Hope everyone has had a great week so far, I know I have. Been working on getting the summer camp invitations out in the mail and other things together, I'm really excited for summer camp this year. So looks like Friday night will work the best for everyone going to the drive in.. that way people can stay for more than one movie because they don't have to head off to work early the next morning. Admission will be $12.00 per person. Movies that are playing are: Toy Story 3, Prince of Persia, and Alice in Wonderland.

The first movie starts at 9:45pm and directions how to get there are on this link: http://www.members.shaw.ca/twilightdrivein/dir.html
They recommend getting there an hour early to get a good spot. So let's try and meet there around 8:30pm.

If you need a ride or can drive and want people in your ride let me/us know in the comments section and we can sort things out... also remember to include your name so we know who's asking what. ;)

Also don't forget that we're going to Mars Hill Church this Sunday and if you have decided you can come please let me know ASAP so we can organize rides. It's going to be awesome! Thanks guys.

This past Sundays sermon was on John 15, where Jesus talks about Himself being the vine and us the branches. That we need to remain in Him in order to bear good fruit in our lives. So how do we remain in Christ? By keeping His word and His command. What is Jesus command? LOVE. So remember love the Lord with all your heart, and love each other. So simple, yet it's so powerful.

Things coming up:
July 4th- Church picnic at Dease Island (3pm)
Sunday Service- 11am, fellowship hall (many of us will be in Seattle so it will be a small groups style meeting.)

See ya soon,
Jarno and Liisa

The Plans

Hi guys,

So I thought I'd get this weeks post out earlier than last weeks! There's quite a few things coming up and things we need to go over:

1. Connected Night (Friday)
2. Drive in Movies
3. Mars Hill Church
4. Kid's camp

So let's start the list off with this Friday's upcoming Connected Night. We have been asked to take care of the little ones (the kids) and for this event, so we are going to have a meeting on Wednesday, June 16th, at around 5:00pm (for now, this time might change) at the church. If you want to be a part of the planning and can't make this meeting on Wednesday you can write your ideas down in the comments section, send a message via e-mail or Facebook to Liisa or myself, or simply call or text us. This Friday's Connected Night is a special one, we are going to have a special guest speaker attending so it's pretty cool. So come on out and help out, it's a great chance to serve others.

Second order of business. The drive in movies. We have 2 choices depending on when people can make it, or want to go. Either this Saturday, June 19th, at 9:45pm, the first show starts. Toy Story 3, Prince of Persia, and Alice in Wonderland are playing. Then we also have the choice of going next week Friday night, June 25th, and there is no schedule up yet at their website of what is playing for that weekend. So please post in the comments section which night you guys want to go and we'll have to go with the majority. Also feel free to invite your friends!

Third order of business. We are going to Mars Hill Church in Seattle to hear Mark Driscoll preach on June 27th. This is the Sunday of next week. Mark will be preaching on Luke 8:40-56, Jesus heals a woman and a girl. We will be going to the 5pm service in the Ballard location. Also we will be having two rides leaving at different times. The first ride will be leaving with Liisa and I early in the morning around 7am and the second with Klaus after the church services are over around 1pm. Space is limited in each ride so if you want a spot let us know ASAP. I can take 3 and Klaus can fit 5-6 people. If other people want to drive too just let us know. Also do not forget to get insurance for that day in the USA... because if something happens that insurance will really save you a lot of money and stress. So, I really want to urge you guys to come, Mars Hill Church is a church full of young people, that is growing rapidly, God is really moving there. I`m hoping and praying that God will really speak to our hearts there, and we leave touched by the Holy Spirit.

Fourth order of business. Kids Camp this summer is happening on August 22nd-27th, and we need all the help with staff we can get. So if you are able to come and help out as a counselor please let me know ASAP!

So there is quite a lot of things coming up and I really need to hear back from you guys on these things. It really helps in planning, so please just take a few minutes and let me know. You can also call me at 778-223-4490. Thanks a bunch!

Also this Sunday`s service will be at 11am in the fellowship hall. I will have the privilege of preaching this Sunday, and it is my first sermon on a Sunday morning so come on out and support me. ;)

Remember to keep Christ as the center of your lives. Prayer is powerful and it really makes a difference. Take some time wherever you are this week and speak to God. That`s what it is, speaking to God. Is that not cool to think about, you are actually speaking to God. Wow, it blows my mind to really think of it that way.

Blessings,
Jarno and Liisa

Summer weekend

Hello everyone,

How is everyone doing this week? Sorry for posting a little late this week! There has been a little change with expected plans. So I'll give you guys the bad news first... we aren't doing the drive in movies this weekend. But, the good news is we are doing it next weekend! This weeks movies did not really seem appealing and fitting so we are going next weekend when Toy Story 3 and Prince of Persia are playing.. usually there is a third movie too but they didn't have anything up for it yet.

But enough about next week, let's take a look at this weekend. So since it is a little late to get any kind of organized event/activity/outing together we are going to meet up this Friday evening at Miika and Marja's place (where we're staying) and have a bit of a BBQ, you can start to arrive around 7 or even sooner if you want, cause we'll be there. We will have hotdawgs to grillz but if anyone wants something else feel free to bring it... also if people want to bring pop, chips, etc for everyone... that would be great! It's supposed to be a nice weekend so come on out for the BBQ to hang out with us/everyone, if you want bring a game, movie, or whatev you think would be fun and we can just hang out and enjoy the good times. Hope to see you all tomorrow!

Also we are looking at going to Seattle to Mars Hill Church on June 27th when Mark Driscoll will be speaking on Luke 8:40-56 (Jesus Heals a woman and girl. So check your calendars if you are free. I really, really, really encourage you guys to all come! He is a great preacher and it will be great. Plus we'll have fun spending some time in the city of Seattle.

If you guys have any comments or questions feel free to post em. That would be most excellent.

Oh yeah I posted a random image of Niko running in the snow in his shorts in -20c for kicks. Thought it would be a contrast to the post name "Summer weekend" as well, heh. Niko representing Canada in Finland. =)

PS: English Service this Sunday at 11:00am, come check it out. We launched a new face to the ministry called 19twenty Church and are getting more organized. Check out our facebook page called 19twenty.

It's a party

Hello all,

It's been a great week so far for me... even though it's rainy outside almost everyday, it's still nice to be back home! Hope you all are having a great week so far and that you can make it out this Friday night at 6:30pm to Natalie's place in Whiterock. We are going to be celebrating those who graduated this year and of course to celebrate the Tedder family for all the great stuff they did with our group. So come on out and join us! It's going to be fun!... and oh yeah Natalie said to bring swimsuits and towels cause the sauna is hot and the pool is heated! If you don't know how to get there give me a call at 604-223-4490, or of course you can call Natalie too.

So last week we met up at Miika and Marja's place and just to recap what we talked about for those who weren't there, we discussed Mark 4, the parable of the sower. Take a moment to read through verses 1-8 and then 13-20. We talked about the different kind of soils that the seed is sown in and what those could be in our daily lives. A lot of us could identify with and relate to the seed among the thorns and how the things of our daily lives can choke our relationship with Jesus. Take a moment and reflect on your own life and think about the upcoming year and what kind of soil you can relate to.

It's really exciting to be working at the church this summer for me and to spend time with you guys. Liisa and I really missed the whole group! This Friday let's also take a look at what weekend we could go check out Mars Hill Church to hear Mark Driscoll speak, so take a look at your calendars for this month, early July, and possibly August as well. Look forward to seeing you guys, and remember Jesus walks with you every step, how cool is that!?!

So to recap:

So young adults: Natalie's place, Whiterock at 6:30pm
Sunday morning: 11:00am, communion meal.

**PS: as Sam kindly reminded us in the comments section, it's a potluck, so please bring something to eat or snack on. Thanks!**

Come on Out

Hello everyone,

So Liisa and myself are now staying at Miika and Marja's house for the next six weeks, which is really nice. It's nice to have a place to ourselves that's bigger than the size of a single small room.

So the plan this Friday is that we're meeting up here at Miika and Marja's. It's Samuel's second last weekend with us so come on out and let's spend some time together and enjoy spending some time together. If you don't know the address or how to get here give Liisa and I a call at 778-223-4490 and we'll give you directions. Hope to see you guys here and look forward to seeing you all.

Also this Sunday is a celebration of the Tedder family in a joint service at 11:00am at Bethel Church. We'll be sending them off as a congregation and thanking them for all the great work they've done in our church. There will also be coffee and food after the service. So it would be great to see you guys all there as well. Take care and be blessed.

Mars Hill Church - Mark Driscoll

Hey guys,

It was great seeing everyone last night! It's so refreshing to be back in Vancouver and amongst friends. I'm really excited about this summer, interning at the church, and spending time with all you guys this summer. Liisa and I really want to plan some fun days, great times spent together, and together growing in Christ. It would be great to start impacting the community in Vancouver and reaching out to people with the love of Jesus Christ.

I mentioned last night as we were leaving about Mark Driscoll who has his church in Seattle and going to visit there. Check out some of his sermons at
http://www.marshillchurch.org/media/sermons?author=driscoll&direction=desc&order_by=date
and also take a look at the rest of the church site. This guy is one of my favorite preachers, he's really to the point and real... I love listening to him. I liked the series he did on "Jesus and Demons", but take a look at what interests you. So have a listen and let us know if you guys would be up for taking a trip to Seattle, spending the day in the city, and attending one of the Mars Hill meetings. Who knows maybe we could even make a camping trip out of this. =)

But again it's great to be back, we've really missed all of you guys! See you soon and stay in touch. God bless.

Coming up + some thoughts

Hello everyone. Hope you are doing better than me. I've been sick in the last 3 weeks more than ever. Went to emergency yesterday due to very high fever. I am on antibiotics now and really hope and pray this cycle of sickness would be over.

Here are some thoughts that have been going on in my head at this time:
Life does not go according to our own script. It's better to live life in dependence on God and trusting Him even when we are a little 'lost' about things going on. It's good to live life humbly before God recognizing that He is in control, not me. Our times of weakness are helpful reminders of this reality. Also this Bible verse has been echoing in my head:

But he said to me, “My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me.

Therefore I am content with weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong. (2.Cor12:9-10)

There is something radical in that statement that contradicts the way power is understood in our culture. Our culture wants us to believe that we have the power, we are in control, we make our lives etc. But that is an illusion. Failure to recognize our dependence on God is the worst mistake we can do. I gladly place all my trust in God and lean on His strength rather than mine!

This Friday is at Jenny's and Daniel's house 7.30-10pm
Hopefully we have the privilege to see Liisa & Jarno and Nico!
Bring some snacks with you to make it a little celebration.

Come pray!

What is our role in the world as Christians?
We participate in God's work in this world in various ways, but the two things we need to be engaged in that are highlighted in the Scriptures are prayer and witness. This Friday we'll focus on the first...

First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanks be offered on behalf of all people,

even for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

Such prayer for all is good and welcomed before God our Savior, since he wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one intermediary between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself as a ransom for all, revealing God’s purpose at his appointed time. (1Tim2:1-5)

This Friday Youth Group @ Kotikirkko

Longing with Hope

I wonder how God would want us to respond to all the 'convulsions' in creation that we have experienced lately? We don't know what is the ultimate cause of all the shakings (at least 4 major earthquakes in few months) and volcano eruptions, but I believe we need to be asking what message it all is sending to us... At least a good reminder that even we modern, technological, advanced, civilized human beings are not in ultimate control. A healthy humbling experience. Also, should make us ponder what all this 'groaning' of creation is all about. Are these part of the signs of the longing of the old for new creation?

For the creation waits with eager longing

for the revealing of the sons of God.

For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly,

but because of him who subjected it,

in hope that the creation itself will be set free

from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom

of the glory of the children of God.

For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

And not only the creation, but we ourselves,

who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly

as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons,

the redemption of our bodies.

For in this hope we were saved. (Rom 8:19-24)

The Heart of God

What do you think is at the heart of God?
What is he like in the depths of his being?
What motivates him on the most fundamental level?

Easter reveals the answer...

At the heart of God is self-giving love.
He was willing to give himself to take our sin and death
so we could participate in his life.
The heart of God looks like Jesus.

God is love.
In this the love of God was made manifest among us,
that God sent his only Son into the world,
so that we might live through him (1John 4:8-9)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
So come and celebrate the love of God during this Easter time at Kotikirkko!

walking with God

Life is an interesting journey. You never really know what is behind the next bend. But the great privilege we have is that we don't have to live it alone! We can fully trust that, when we live according to the prayer: may your will be done... God will guide us, always. The Bible even says:

And we know that for those who love God
all things work together for good,
for those who are called according to his purpose.
(Rom 8:28)

I don't know of any other way to live a meaningful life with hope and a promise of it never ending. Just like Enoch, he walked with God and one day he was 'beamed' up to continue his walk with God in His presence.

Well Jeremy's journey is going to have a change soon. No he is not going to be beamed up to heaven, but he is getting as near as you can get to it: FINLAND! In a few weeks he is heading back home, but we have a chance to celebrate him this Friday.

Here is the plan:

Friday 7pm meet at Planet Laser in Langley
(we are going to try to get in to play a game or two without a reservation, if it's too booked we'll just head to Nina's place and have fun playing games etc. - please bring some dutch blitz cards)
Here is the link of the map for the location: planet laser Langley
Here is their website just in case: http://planetlazer.net/locations.html
around 9pm go hang out at Nina's place

Sunday is the whole Church celebration 11- coffee & cake!

plans and prayer

This Friday the YouthWithAMission (YWAM) team from Finland (they are staying at our church and participating in the Olympics outreach) is going to Miika's and Marja's house to watch the opening ceremonies. We thought that it would be nice, if the youth group could join in and share the joy together!

So here is the plan for this Friday:
  • starting at 6pm Youth Group with the YWAM team at Miika's place.
  • if you need directions call Miika 778-855-2751
  • bring some snacks with you!
Sunday Valentine's day service
10.30 English congregation set-up
11-11:30 'sweet time' together - bring cookies/cakes etc. to share with the whole church
11.30 English Worship Service with the YWAM team!
---------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a prayer to keep our hearts in tune with God during the hubris of Olympics...

I asked God for strength that I might achieve. I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked God for health that I might do greater things. I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches that I might be happy. I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power that I might have the praise of men. I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life. I was given life that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing I asked for but everything I had hoped for....

Almost despite myself my unspoken prayers were answered. I am among all men most richly blessed.

- Unknown Confederate Soldier

Our Father

It was a great experience to go with you to Rock Creek/Mt.Baldy for our 2010 SkiCamp. It's just so different when we get to spend time and experience more things together. I would love to do that more, but... you know.

Anyways, this Friday we can get together again and start our regular weekly gatherings for 2010! The theme that we will engage with during this Spring is the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray:

Our Father in heaven,

may your name be honored,

may your kingdom come,

may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts,

as we ourselves have forgiven our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

Hopefully this can open to us new appreciation, vision and excitement to live as God's children.

This Friday Youth Group @ Koivumaki's (Emma's house) 7.30-10pm
- food & fellowship (bring what you can)
- Bible Study/Discussion
- Enjoying Life together!

Blessings,
samuel

Ski Camp details

Ok, here it is...
Two days and we are off to adventures.

Here is the list of people now going:
Marissa
Emma
Nina
Aread
Jeremy
Mikko
Jesse
Samuel
(Lydia)
+ we will be joined at location by the Missionary family
Kari Ranta and his 4 teenage kids (12-17 years).

This means we are taking a 15 passenger van to get us
and our stuff comfortably on a 5 hour ride!

I propose the following departure times:
4pm Samuel leaves from home (Mikko has jumped onboard possibly here)
4.25 pick up Jesse (Richmond)
4.35 pick up Jeremy
5.00 pick up Marissa, Emma, and Aread at Ahlgren house (Emma, if you need to be picked up from home, let me know)
5.20 pick up Nina (could you come to the 200th street intersection area?)
5.30 head of towards Rock Creek!!!
Arrive around 10pm

What you need to bring (in addition to your usual things):
sleeping bags / mattresses/ pillows/ sheets (there are some beds available)
slippers recommended
warm clothing!
Bible + ear plugs;)
crazy carpets / toboggans
Skiing/snowboarding equipment

Justin's mom Tarja will cook for us at the location, so get ready for some great camp food!
We need to reimburse her, so have some money for that.
Also we'll share the gasoline cost so count those in your budget.
The church will pay for our van rental!

If you have any questions, post a comment
or call me at 778-689-8100

Looking forward to a great SkiCamp!
